What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping people work through and heal from the psychological impacts of traumatic events. It includes different therapy methods aimed at tackling the emotional, psychological, and physical effects of trauma, which can come from issues like accidents, abuse, natural disasters, or violence. The primary goals of trauma therapy are to:

  • Find ways to ease the symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
  • Get back that feeling of safety and being in charge of your own life.
  • Find ways to handle trauma-related symptoms in a more effective manner.

How we use trauma therapy

We often incorporate trauma therapy with other evidence-based approaches, like:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Helps individuals process traumatic memories through guided eye movements.
  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE): Involves gradual exposure to trauma-related memories and situations to reduce fear and avoidance.
  • Somatic Therapy: Address the physical signs of trauma, improve emotional regulation, and build a stronger connection between our mind and body.

This integrative approach provides a more well-rounded way to heal and move forward.
